In this HTN feature Marc Warburton, InfoFlex CEO, outlines how InfoFlex can facilitate the digitisation of previously paper-based processes. The numerous benefits of these transformations are exemplified with reference to two InfoFlex projects, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Oncology Department and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.

HTN (Health Tech News) spoke with Marc Warburton, Chief Executive at InfoFlex to understand how the company is supporting trusts digitise a paper process and to hear about some of their customer projects. Marc said:

“Last year witnessed the NHS turning 70. A huge milestone and an anniversary to be immensely proud of.  Times have changed and technology progressed. Although, with limited budgets and the need to focus efforts on medical R&D, the opportunity to prioritise day-to-day running of hospitals is sometimes overlooked.”

“North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust faced this challenge. They slowly discovered that the existing paper based system they used to manage patients was slow to access, often incomplete, and difficult to search, especially if the patient had complex health needs.”

“Considering various options to resolve this they opted to partner with InfoFlex – an established health data management system that can draw multiple information sources together with an easy to access web interface. It would mean converting the paper system to digital.”

“North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust introduced InfoFlex across the entire trust with significant benefits. Used as a clinical portal they immediately worked towards a paper light solution. PACS and ICE systems continued to operate – but with the convenience of being accessed in one place. As more systems were added, including those from the GP, InfoFlex has become an electronic patient record for the entire trust eliminating the need for paper at the point of care.”

There’s better care for patients as the doctors, nurses and consultants have all the information at their fingertips in a readily accessible form that is centrally available. “At Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust the Oncology department has also benefited from the introduction of this paper-free data management solution.  Here, InfoFlex interacts with several hospital systems, so that the clinical team managing the aftercare of colorectal cancer patients can easily access information about each patient straight away, without needing to log in and out of other systems. InfoFlex also forms the bedrock on which the Trust can confidently risk stratify patients to supported self-management, knowing that InfoFlex will reliably and safely keep track of patients and their needs, as well as facilitating their recovery, through offering enhanced information and support.”

She already had the information for that patient open on InfoFlex. She didn’t need to click in and out of other systems. The result was there straight away. The person’s letter was there. That wouldn’t have happened before.”
